Bodegas Monje presents its Reserva 2000, dedicated to Óscar Domínguez
Óscar Domínguez (1926-1957) gives his name to the fifth Monje de Autor Reserva 2000, a new edition in a series of exclusive wines with which Bodegas Monje aims to pay tribute to great Canary Island artists.
The wine is part of a collection of exclusive wines produced by this winery Martín Chirino (93), Pedro González (94), César Manrique (95), Alfredo Kraus (98) and Óscar Domínguez (2000).
The label on the bottle depicts the work Désir d´été (Summer desire), painted in 1934 by this surrealist artist from Tenerife.
The Wine
Monje de Autor 2000. Óscar Domínguez is the result of a rigorous wine making process that starts out in the vineyards and culminates in the patient knowledge of the wine cellar. Matured for eighteen months in American and French oak casks, this red reserva wine unites the qualities of the listán negro, negramoll and listán blanco grape traditions.
It is mid depth red cherry in colour, and is both clean and shiny. You need to let the bouquet open in order to understand its expression; ripe fruit mixed with hints of rich wood, coffee, truffle and a varietal and indefinable sensation lent by the traditional grape varieties. It has a wide taste, with tannins yet to settle but can be drunk now, and is balanced by a slightly bitter aftertaste typical of wines made from listán negro grapes.
5,715 75 cl bottles and 75 1.5 l magnums have been produced.
Presentation
The presentation ceremony was attended by both the authorities and honoured guests, as well as, in representation of the artist's family, his niece Iris Fariña Domínguez, who thanked the bodega for the tribute paid to her uncle and gave a tender, familiar outline of the artist's character.
For his part, Felipe Monje expressed his pride in uniting the wine born from the soil on which Óscar walked, lived and loved with the cherished memory of the surrealist artist.
